A history of Innovation
In 1920, brothers William and Harry Hurd started their business to manufacture windows and other millwork products. By 1957, Hurd was a leading regional wood window manufacturer, and was widely recognized for its fine craftsmanship.
In the mid-70s, Americans discovered patios and decks. Hurd started to manufacture wood patio doors to fill the demand. Later, a full line of aluminum clad wood windows and patio doors was added to the product list.
In 1980 Hurd made a national name for itself when it introduced Heat Mirror™, a technology that offers outstanding energy efficiency, blocks destructive UV rays and cuts noise.
In 1996 we introduced our first vinyl windows and patio doors. In 1998 we introduced Hurd ComfortGlazing™, a system that enables you to fine tune your glass for each room according to its exposure to the elements.
In 2004, Hurd was purchased by MHI Inc.. Under MHI's leadership, we committed ourselves to Perfection in everything we do. We realize that nobody actually achieves total perfection; rather, perfection is a journey.
In 2005, we introduced our FeelSafe™ Coastal products with shatter-resistant glass. 2006 was a very busy year, indeed. We introduced ClimaGuard SPF™, the first clear glass treatment with 99.9% UV protection, our Historic Collection of all-wood windows, and our ultra-custom Heritage Entrance Systems.
Most recently, we introduced CoreGuard™, our innovative, new wood treatment system that penetrates all the way to the core of the wood. With exciting new things like this happening at Hurd, you can understand why we look forward to the future with so much anticipation.
